3D printing embeds in clinical imaging

ASX Listed company 3D Medical Limited has announced a partnership with Intelerad Medical Systems (Intelerad) to develop seamless ordering of the company’s patient-specific 3D printed anatomical models and fulfilment services. Orders will be placed directly with 3DM from Intelerad’s InteleViewer software while the clinician is reviewing a patient’s diagnostic image study.

3D Medical is a medical specific 3D printing and holographic projection and data integrations provider. The combined solution provides an opportunity to be embedded in the clinical workflow and offer enhanced functionality to Intelerad’s image management software

Intelerad develops distributed radiology, specialising in picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) and workflow solutions for healthcare organisations. Intelerad’s software solution increases productivity and streamlines workflow in distributed and complex multi-site environments such as large radiology practices and hospitals. Intelerad’s software solutions are used in more than 1,000 sites across Oceania, North America and the United Kingdom.

“We are delighted to have entered into this pioneering relationship with Intelerad,” said Dr Nigel Finch, Chairman of 3DM.

“This is an exciting step in establishing the protocol for the clinical use of 3D printed anatomical models to deliver greater medical certainty and improved patient outcomes. It also presents a material scale opportunity for clinical users of Intelerad’s software to immediately access our 3D printing services.

“Over the next few months we will work closely with Intelerad on developing a seamless workflow for clinicians to order patient-specific 3D printed anatomical models direct from 3DM.”

“At Intelerad, we are always searching for ways to enhance our product suite,” said Chris Henri, Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad. “By enabling radiologists to order high-quality models from 3DM directly from within InteleViewer, we are not only helping to raise the quality of care available, but doing so in manner that is both easy and efficient for the clinician.”
