Veritas software option protecting desktop data

Veritas software option protecting desktop data

Storage software provider Veritas has announced a new option for its backup and recovery software that is intended to protect mission-critical corporate data on laptops and desktops in both the SME sector and large enterprise market.

Additionally, the Veritas Desktop and Laptop Option allows users to automatically synchronise data among multiple machines with a single click.

The new technology, which was first previewed earlier this year as Project Shadow, is scheduled to be released to market by the end of 2003 as an option to the vendor's Backup Exec and NetBackup software.

"IT decision makers agree that a disproportionate amount of corporations' intellectual property now lives at the desktop. The problem is there are too many disparate ways to try to protect this data," said Steve Kenniston, technology analyst, the Enterprise Storage Group. "Veritas is one of the first companies to integrate a desktop/mobile product into its existing backup product line, helping IT to leverage their existing infrastructure and expertise."

"The Desktop and Laptop Option represents extensive field research and conversations with our customers. Our findings show that most companies want to automate laptop and desktop backup with their existing policies so end-users don't have to remember to back up their systems to ensure that critical data is protected," said Mark Bregman, executive vice president of product operations, Veritas. "[It] helps reduce the risk of leaving that critical data unprotected by offering streamlined integration from within our backup and recovery software, limiting the need for costly end-user interaction with IT to protect and recover data on corporate laptops and desktops."
