Legato unveil backup system for Microsoft SME market

Legato Systems has introduced a data protection solution, incorporating backup and restore software married to a tape automation product with full support and services, designed for Microsoft users in small and medium enterprises. Legato is a Gold Partner of Microsoft, and the solution will be demonstrated for the first time in Australia at LEGATO’s booth at Microsoft Tech.Ed 2003, which runs from the 10th to 13th August in Brisbane.

Legato’s NetWorker version 7.0 is at the heart of the offering, while Quantum adds to the solution a choice of either a tape based Autoloader or automated library. It also comes with installation and training by system integration company Enstor.

"Traditionally smaller businesses using Microsoft Windows have not had an affordable data protection solution available to them," said Stephen Lloyd-Jones, managing director Legato Australia. "Recent research clearly showed us that smaller businesses are missing out on enterprise standard data protection due to both the complexity of current solutions and the high cost. Now they have available Legato's enterprise class NetWorker product and class leading Quantum automation with attractive pricing and install."

Networker version 7.0 protects data on all Windows servers and desktops (as well as UNIX, Linux, OpenVMS, Macintosh and NetWare in DAS, NAS and SAN environments). It protects the critical business data of more than 29,000 enterprises worldwide and is scalable so that the same product applies from the smallest company to the largest enterprise.

"Quantum is delighted to be partnering with LEGATO in this data protection initiative for smaller business," said Emil Kobylarz, managing director Asia Pacific for Quantum’s Storage Solutions Group. "By incorporating expandable tape automation with the new NetWorker 7.0 software with its Intelligent Device Management capability and support for Microsoft’s RSM is a boom for small business. Now they have a tested and approved automation product as part of the total data protection suite."
