CA underline commitment to storage at showcase event

Systems management and storage software provider Computer Associates has strengthened its commitment to its BrightStor ARCserve Backup customers with the introduction of version 10 of the data protection system.

The company announced the arrival of the solution at the company's annual CA World event, which is taking place in Las Vegas this year. The Windows version will be available during the fourth quarter of 2003, with new versions for Linux and Netware to hit the streets early next year.

The latest version will include a variety of new features, including Advanced Application Disaster Recovery (AADR) functionality that will drastically reduce the time taken to recover a Windows system from a catastrophic failure. This next-generation recovery technology will ensure that customers can access applications and their data without having to perform any additional manual steps. Applications supported in the initial release will include Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server.

Version 10 will also provide high-performance, granular backup and restore support for the single instance storage of Microsoft Exchange Server. This will optimise backups by storing only one instance of a multiple-instance item regardless of the number of emails that contain the item.

CA is also extending the integration facilities of BrightStor ARCserve Backup to include BrightStor Enterprise Backup, BrightStor Storage Resource Management and BrightStor Portal, as well as its eTrust Antivirus security solution.

"CA is fully committed to our BrightStor ARCserve Backup customers, as well as to channel partners who have made it a core component of their solutions portfolios," says Robert Davis, CA vice president of BrightStor solutions. "With each passing year, new versions of BrightStor ARCserve Backup will continue to raise the bar for ease-of-use, price/performance, management, automation and integration with other solutions."
