Storage software vendor Connected believes it has come up with a solution that will ease the growing concerns of IT administrators over email archiving.
The Connected DataProtector with EmailOptimizer 7.0 includes a new "data reduction process" for handling and storage of user email files and archives. The company claims that the combination of this technology and PC-centric storage practices yields a substantial reduction in an organisation's file and email server and storage needs, reducing the high costs associated with storage growth and management.
The system works by archiving each user's email locally to the PC, with the archived data then backed up automatically to centralised storage in the data centre. According to Connected, the application of DataProtector with EmailOptimizer to the information on PC hard drives reduces the data captured, sent and ultimately stored in the data centre by an average of 85 percent or more. This, combined with other improvements, allows Connected customers that previously consolidated data from 10,000 PCs onto a pair of data centre servers, to now scale as high as 20,000 PCs per server pair.
