Trio offer single solution

A trio of storage heavyweights have put their heads and their wares together to offer a single business continuity solution. EMC, Legato and Nortel Networks have teamed up to combine their existing systems into one business continuity solution.

The aim of the system is to allow multiple data centres to act as one and to route to an alternative site should a data centre go down. As well as re-routing the system requires no manual restoration or restart procedures, they claim.

The system consists of EMC's Symmetrix and Clariion network storage systems, as well as EMC's Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDFTM) replication software. Legato pitched in with its software, including their Automated Availability Manager (AAM) application, while Nortel Networks is supplying its OPTera Metro 5200 Multiservice Platform.

The trio claim that the solution provides applications, backup, recovery and proactive management of downtime if it planned by a network administrator.

A number of operating environments can be supported by the system, including Sun Microsystem's Solaris, Hewlett-Packard's HP-UX, IBM's AIX and Windows NT/2000.

Integration of the system was through the EMC Developers Program for Legator AAM and EMC SRDF, with qualification for the system taking place at EMC's E-Lab.
