Brits become objective

Great Britain's Public Records Office is to adopt Objective's electronic records management system to manage its business records.

The Public Record Office (PRO) has awarded the contract to Australia's Objective to deliver an enterprise wide records management system to the department's 600 end users. As part of the deal Objective consultants will be working with the PRO to install the application.

"Winning this contract was a significant development in Objective's European expansion," said Tony Walls the executive chairman of Objective.

Objective reports that the PRO carried out stringent tests of records management applications to ensure that the chosen solution provided document and data of integrity and was easy to use. Mr Walls described the PRO as a "very well educated buyer," he said competition was "intense" with 12 other systems under evaluation from the PRO's list of approved records management systems. "To be chosen from this elite group for the PRO's own records management requirements is a testament to not only the quality, robustness and rich functionality of our software, but our experience, expertise and capability in delivering business outcomes, not simply technology," said Mr Walls in a statement.

The PRO administers and preserves the public records of the central government in Great Britain from its location in beautiful Kew, Surrey. Currently the PRO is involved in ensuring that government departments meet a mandate to manage records electronically, as set out by Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labour government in its Modernising Government program. The PRO administers and preserves British government records and advises other government departments on records management practices and defines the functional requirement. It also tests and approves records management systems for use by government bodies in Britain.

All government records are to be managed electronically by 2004 in Great Britain.
