Bevy of NetApp announcements

Network Appliance has released a range of new hardware and software solutions for the storage market. Amongst the new offerings were new versions of the NearStore and SnapVault systems.

The new NearStore RM150 is the latest backup hard disk system from Network Appliance (NetApp). NearStore was released a year ago to offer three petabytes of storage and disaster recovery. Backing up the new hardware release is an improved version of NetApp's SnapVault software application. Improvements have been made to the application to offer centralised disk backup and recovery.

Version 4 of NetApp's NFS server side storage consolidation application was also released as well as an enhanced version of the Virtual File Manager (VFM) application.

As can be read elsewhere on the IDM site(Click here to read about iSCSI ratification), NetApp has also released a set of solutions to support the now ratified iSCSI protocol. NetApp believes the ratification will reduce the costs and complexity of installing a storage area network (SAN) and help the market move away from direct attached storage to networked storage systems.
