Opening doors into Asia

The rush for market share in Asia continued today as knowledge management vendor Open Text announced that it has signed a deal with CDC Software, a large player in the Chinese market.

A letter of intent has been signed by the two parties and a definitive agreement will be in place soon, Open Text report. CDC Software is the software division of chinadotcom, one of the leading integrated solutions players in the Asian market. CDC already produces applications in the human resources, customer relationship management and the email marketing sections of the market.

Under the terms of the agreement, CDC will be delivering the Open Text LiveLink application set to markets in mainland China, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. This should add to current LiveLink installations at the Hong Kong International Terminal, and Ion Global, an e-business integrator.

"With this agreement, we have strengthened our ability to meet this demand in Asia and to continue building for growth throughout the region. It will give us the resources needed to continue with forecasted growth plans and to deliver on our promise of leadership through collaboration," said John Armenakas, the vice president for Open Text Asia Pacific said. Analysts believe that knowledge management and e-commerce applications with collaborative elements will be a growth market.

CDC Software is to offer services and support to LiveLink through its direct sales and channel partners in the region. Open Text will provide training, technical support, help desk and "product localisation" services as its part of the deal. CDC will become a part of the Affinity Partner program that Open Text runs.

Mr Armenakas is based in the Sydney office and will "over-see" the relationship," a spokesperson said.
