Zip it and Stuffit

Iomega and Aladdin Systems have joined forces to bring automated compression to removable media in a development that will particularly interest Apple-using publishing houses.

Aladdin has developed a version of its Stuffit compression and encryption application which is "powered" by Iomega's Active Disk technology, enabling it to be run from Iomega's Zip disks without having to be installed on Apple systems' hard drives. User of the combined solution would be able to run a large application such as Adobe Photoshop or Quark Xpress from the removable disk, and have all of the file data stored on the Zip disk along with the application.

The "Active Disk powered" software will be able to run on Zip 100, 250 and the new 750 disks, along with Iomega's Portable Hard Drives with capacity ranging from 20GB to 120GB and its CD-RW drives. Operating system support for the application will extend to Windows 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP, with Macintosh users requiring a Power Macintosh with System 8.6 or higher.
