NetApp snaps into Lotus position

NetApp snaps into Lotus position

By Paul Montgomery

Network Appliance has released a version of its SnapManager automated backup software for use in Lotus Domino email and collaboration environments.

SnapManager for Lotus Domino is intended for use alongside NetApp's FAS900 or F800 hardware devices for hot backups in network attached storage or storage area networks, according to the company.

NetApp claimed that the software/hardware combo would deliver "near-instantaneous" backup of data stored on Domino servers "without any performance penalty, regardless of database size", with 48 terabytes being the upper limit of capacity.

The SnapManager product makes use of the existing Backup APIs in the Domino system, and includes a wizard=based interface for regular storage administration tasks.
