ACT adopts Intergraph GeoMedia suite for GIS

The ACT's Land Information Centre (ACTLIC) has signed an $450,000 contract with Intergraph for a new geographical information system(GIS).

ACTLIC will use Intergraph's GeoMedia suite to improve efficiences and provide internal and external customers with more accurate and timely information.

ACTLIC, a section of ACT's Planning and Land Management (PALM) Group will use the migration to conduct a ground-up remodelling of its business processes.

"Intergraph is providing us with more than a GIS," said Ross Jenkins, ACTLIC's Spatial Data Management Systems (SDMS) project manager.

"The system has much broader scope, from managing data at the database level to a range of GIS functions and beyond. In effect, it gives us vertical integration, high-end users will access the system through the Web envrionment. The professional GIS people will use GeoMedia for mapping and other functions, and data will be maintained using GeoMedia Pro."

ACTLIC is the ACT government land information, mapping and surveying agency. The section is responsible for the update and maintainence of the ACT's Primary Land Information System, ACTMAP including the capture of cadastral, topographic and infastructure data and distribution of utilities information.
