IIM98 - Asia/Pacific information management conference & exhibition

Program

IIM98, to be held from September 6 to 9 at the Carlton Crest Hotel, Melbourne, will incorporate a conference, a workshop and an industry expo into its program.

The national event will be hosted by the Institute for Information Management (IIM), an industry associated company limited by guarantee which exists solely to service its members and promulgate best practices in information management, policies, methodologies and systems.

The IIM's 1998 event will bring together key industry people throughout the Australian and Asia Pacific region to explore current developments and future trends in information management.

IIM98's theme, 'Your passport to information management for the new millennium', emphasises the need to look ahead to the possibilities of IM to corporate users.

One of IIM98's keynote addresses is to be given by Alan Stockdale, Victoria's Minister for Information Technology and Multimedia. The Minister's keynote speech will address relevant topics related to current trends in knowledge and information management.

Knowledge management is one of the primary focuses of the conference and will be the subject of a number of important papers from key industry leaders. This stream of the conference will be initiated by keynote speaker Professor Michael Vitale, from the Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne.

Document management is another key issue being looked at during the conference, with industry professionals discussing the latest trends and issues relating to document management practices, methods, systems and technologies. The document management stream will commence with a videoconferencing session featuring Karen Strong, president of Texas-based Clarity on the subject "A structured approach to enterprise document management".

According to the IIM, the workshop has been designed to offer an insight into the changes in this rapidly evolving niche of the marketplace.

IIM98 aims to bring together information management practitioners with providers of image management technology to impress on users how management tools can improve business critical processes.

To complement what IM professionals will learn from the conference section of IIM98, the trade expo will showcase the latest products and advances in the IM industry.

Delegates who are interested in learning more about these products will have the chance to purchase documentation, books and the products during the exhibition.
