HP to OEM StorageTek's tape libraries

StorageTek has announced a worldwide strategic relationship with Hewlett-Packard under which HP will OEM part of StorageTek's TimberWolf family of automated DLT tape libraries.

The deal allows StorageTek to serve Unix and mid-range markets more thoroughly by targeting users through HP's broad global channels.

Under the agreement, StorageTek becomes HP's strategic supplier of enterprise capable tape libraries to complement its high-end HP 9000 enterprise server offering.

The addition of the TimberWolf range should complete HP's family of tape libraries. Currently there are few options available for secure disaster recover for storage management users in the mid-range Unix server market.

HP will OEM three of StorageTek's four TimberWolf automated tape libraries, the 9710, 9714 and 9730.

According to the manufacturer, TimberWolf automated libraries have been designed to enable companies to start with a minimum of drives and storage capacity and then expand as the company's storage requirements change.
