Captiva audience for forms

By Paul Montgomery

Forms processing software developer Captiva Software has announced several new users in Australia and New Zealand, and has also signed a bundling deal with COLD vendor IMR.

Maree Commerford, country manager for Australia/New Zealand for Captiva, said most of the company's previous clients had been based in Melbourne, as the local office is also there, but with the help of resellers, the company had had some wins in other areas.

Captiva's FormWare forms processing application will be used by Data Mail in New Zealand, with systems integration performed by a Sydney-based reseller called Prismac, according to Ms Commerford. Data Mail, the largest mail house and imaging bureau in the country, is owned by NZ Post.

The main installation will be located in Wellington with additional remote scanning capabilities in Auckland.

Data Mail will make the transition to using intelligent character recognition for its paper forms, and will also use FormWare support key-from-image and key-from-paper jobs in its scanning operations.

Canberra integrator Insight Technology has scored a win for Captiva at the Trust Bank in Tasmania.

FormWare was also used in both stages of the recent float of Telstra shares. Ms Commerford said the financial sector had many more uses for forms processing software than just float applications.

"We're targeting end users in financial markets, because the software is for high-end users," she said.

"We will tackle the banking and finance industries where their processes are still tied to paper. We can guarantee a minimum of 50 per cent in staff savings. The share float is a small part of it."

IN FROM THE COLD

Captiva has also agreed to integrate FormWare with IMR's Alchemy system for storage and retrieval of images and COLD (computer output to laser disc) reports from optical and magnetic drives.

Documents captured by the FormWare software will be stored in Alchemy's ODBC-compliant database on CD, DVD or magneto-optical drives in the new solution. Access can be given to users through either a Windows fat client or a Web browser.
