Microsoft Office officially arrives on Android

Microsoft has taken the “preview” label off Office for Android, declaring the smartphones suite ready to provide the full Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience.

The suite was beta tested for over five weeks to mimic the feature set available on Android tablets.

Key features of the new apps include:

On the go reviews and edits – users can review documents in full fidelity, read comments and make changes

Presenting from phone – PowerPoint for Android includes the same transitions, animations and design as the desktop version

Quick access to my documents – It’s easy to find documents and it will highlight where the user was last working. Files can be accessed from OneDrive as well as Dropbox, Google Drive or Box

Microsoft is partnering with over 30 OEMs such as Samsung, LG and more to preload the apps onto Android devices.

Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for the Office Client Applications and Services team, said the rollout completes “the Office experience for the millions of Android users around the world.”
