BakBone Updates NetVault

June 29, 2007: In an effort to speed up data restoration and promote automatic integration with backup devices, BakBone Software has announced version 5.0 of its NetVault: Backup Application Plugin Module (APM) for Oracle and Backup AMP for SQL Server.

BakBone claims that the new software significantly speeds up data restores, reduces the risk of deployment and does not require end-users to be versed with Oracle or SQL Server databases. The company also says that users can take advantage of multiple recovery scenarios including disaster recovery, isolated media failure and data corruption, from within a single protection strategy.

“With Oracle Database continuing to be the world’s leading relational database management system and Microsoft SQL Server being the world’s fastest growing relational database management system, it’s imperative that we provide flexible and reliable data protection solutions,” said Jeff Drescher, director of product management at BakBone.

The company says that Backup APM for Oracle features both user managed and RMAN based backups to restore complete databases, individual tablespaces or individual data files. User-managed backups provide greater simplicity for backups while RMAN based backups are automated through a point-and-click GUI.

Backup APM for SQL Server offers many of the same features, however, it offers data protection through online VDI and VSS backup methods. It also includes a point-and-click GUI to eliminate scripting, and enables recovery of complete, partial databases or individual data files.
