April 5, 2007: At the invitation of Second Life’s real-world hosts Linden Lab, the FBI has investigated the online community’s gambling facilities.
With Linden dollars making some serious cash for some Second Life residents, the online game’s economy is thriving with creators looking to further explore the world of virtual gaming.
Linden Lab is currently seeking guidance and clear cut rules on its gambling activities but at this point, the US government has not yet determined the legality of the situation.
Residents don’t have to travel far to find one of hundreds of ‘casinos’ currently in operation and making modest profits in the virtual land Reuters reports the surge of gambling activity on Second Life happens to coincide with a real-life crackdown in the United States.
