Hitachi Offers SAN with Training Wheels

March 6, 2007: Hitachi is promising to help SMBs more effectively manage dtaa growth with a range of new Windows-based SAN kits.

The company is spruking the benefits of its Plug-and-play SAN Kit, what it is calling the industry’s first bundled solution for the Microsoft Simple SAN initiative.

Managing IT infrastructure is not something SMBs like to spend time on, however, simply outsourcing the problem can prove to be a costly affair. Hitachi is confident that it's system eliminates both of these issues.

The company collaborated with both Microsoft and QLogic to create its what it is calling its Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage solutions. It says that its Plug-and-play SAN Kits for the Hitachi AMS200, AMS500 and WMS100 systems have been designed to provide “out of box” SAN experience for users, enabling small and medium-size enterprises to install a SAN quickly, in most cases under an hour, without on-site assistance.

Hitachi says that the kits are available in 2Gb/s or 4Gb/s Fibre Channel configurations and include all the hardware and software necessary to connect servers to a first SAN or to extend a SAN from the data center to a distant workgroup.

“The Hitachi Plug-and-play SAN Kit saves me several hours a week in managing information, which allows me to run my small business instead of spending time working on IT problems,” say Jeff Pieper, president of Pieper and Associates in the US. “Additionally, with the Hitachi Data Systems solution, we can scale our storage tenfold.”
