NZ Council Turns to Objective

March 14, 2007: Taupo District Council has turned to an Objective ECM solution to enhance their information management and improve overall business processes.

Covering an area of 6970 square kilometres and one of New Zealand’s largest visitor destinations, the Council provides a broad range of services to customers throughout the District.

With an Information Management Strategy project recently put in action, the Council looked to determine a framework that would improve on the collection, management and use of reliable and accurate information.

The council selected Objective to replace their existing systems with a single corporate information store working to eliminate separate, silos of information. “It will underpin the effective and efficient delivery of accurate information for our business and our customers,” says Susan Souren, information technology manager, Taupo District Council.

“Information is vital to the successful and efficient functioning of local government,” says Souren. “Communities and ratepayers expect easy and timely access to council’s information.”

The Public Records Act of 2005 means New Zealand councils must now comply with certain records management procedures. Taupo District Council says Objective will deliver the transparency and accountability required in their regular business processes.

“Strict statutory demands are placed on the processing time of both building and resource consent applications,” says Souren. “Objective will manage scanned consent applications by providing a single point of access to multiple departments requiring access to the application.”
