Adaptec has bought previously internally used RAID data protection technology from IBM and will commission experts from Big Blue's engineering team to incorporate it into the xSeries line servers for the benefit of customers.

The IBM engineers will join Adaptec to design new RAID components that will be added to Adaptec's merchant production line.

These engineers used to design these components for the internal use of IBM's iSeries and pSeries line of eServers.

This deal will allow Adaptec to sell these previously proprietary components on the open market.

Robert N. Stephens, president and chief executive officer of Adaptec said. "Our strategic relationship with IBM has been a successful one, and we are pleased to expand our collaboration even further to deliver next-generation RAID data-protection solutions for xSeries, iSeries and pSeries customers with diverse business needs.

"The new agreements enhance the Adaptec suite of storage solutions and extend our ability to serve diverse applications, such as enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, customer relationship management and transaction processing."

Adaptec expects a huge return in revenue for the acquisition of this intellectual property that will help it provide end-to-end storage solutions that manage and protect critical data and digital content for many high profile organisations.
