Marathon Offers High-Availability Virtualisation Software

March 26, 2008: With the popularity of virtualisation is growing strongly, many companies are now rolling out products to increase the scope of the solution. The latest of these is Marathon Technologies fault-tolerant, high availability server virtualisation software.

Based on the everRun line of automated availability software, everRun VM has notched up a world first in the prevention of outages and data loss in Citrix XenServer virtual infrastructures.

Marathon says there are three significant benefits everRun VM offers, the first of which being its ability to run high value production applications in virtual machines, enabling the benefits of virtualisation to be used across a broader range of applications

Secondly the company claims it will now be practical to make high availability and disaster recovery (which should already be a priority for all companies) a standard part of medium and large-seize company IT infrastructure

Finally, Marathon is pitching everRun as a key component when it comes to accelerating the next wave of server virtualisation adoption, saying that companies that have deployed virtualisation to date have not migrated many of their highest value, business critical applications to virtual servers. It says this is due to a variety of reasons, namely performance concerns and a lack of true high availability software. everRun VM provides redundant virtual machines and synchronized mirroring of the whole system, while the integration of XenServer’s “bare-metal” performance and everRun VM’s unique architecture “gives IT professionals the confidence to virtualise business critical and other production applications” according to Marathon.
