Copying SANS

Germany's CeBIT technology exhibition is always a hive of new product activity, and storage vendor EMC used the event to launch its latest software application, SAN Copy.

The new application is for data movement and is aimed at companies looking to centrally move corporate data from legacy EMC CLARiiON and Symmetric storage systems.

SAN Copy doesn't use a server, instead data moves within the storage area network (SAN) infrastructure. EMC claims that SAN Copy allows users to copy and move up to four terabytes of data per hour, with little impact on other applications.

The new application has been fully integrated with the TimeFinder and SnapView replication applications from EMC. At the announcement the company also announced that its professional services division will use SAN Copy to move data from the Hewlett-Packard/Compaq StorageWorks system onto EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix storage environments. SAN Copy also supports the CLARiiON CX and FC Series systems as well as the DMX and 8000 Series Symmetrix systems.

SAN Copy is already available, with a US listed price of US$18,000.
