VMware Release Virtual Desktop Manager 2

February 5, 2008: Virtualisation provider, VMware has released VMware Virtual Desktop Manager 2 which allows users to connect to virtual desktops in the data centre.

As expansion of VMware’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Virtual Desktop Manager 2 (VDM 2) is a desktop management server that allows users to connect to any virtual desktop from a PC or thin client. This is particularly useful for server administrators who have the need to manage thousands of desktops at once.

Endorsements of VDM2 from hardware providers and VMware clients have been widespread, with Florida Hospital, Association of Teachers and Lecturers, Dell, HP, IBM, NEC and Wyse all having glowing praise for the new offering.

“Our customers are deploying VMware desktop virtualization solutions in greater and greater numbers,” said Jeff Jennings, vice president of desktop products and solutions at VMware. “Our expanded VDI solution now provides these organizations with a complete and integrated end-to-end desktop virtualization solution. Customers can now manage virtual desktops with greater levels of operational efficiency, flexibility, and security.”

VMware reports that it’s virtualisation technology is currently employed by over 100,000 technologies and aims for the addition of VDM2 to take this even further.
