NetApp Updates SANscreen

December 29, 2008: NetApp has released a new addition to its SANscreen product suite, saying it can provide increase storage management capabilities and greater data centre efficiency with version 5.0.

The company says that SANscreen delivers greater efficiency to storage by proactively aligning storage resources with application requirements. Through real-time, multivendor, multiprotocol service-level views of the storage environment, NetApp says that SANscreen enables customers to manage storage as a true end-to-end IT service.

Service-level information that is delivered via SANscreen can be used by storage and non-storage teams, while customers can also integrate storage into the entire IT service delivery chain. NetApp claims that this results in increased efficiencies and reduced costs.

“With today’s economy, enterprise customers need to find ways to increase utilisation of their existing IT infrastructure and lower their costs,” says Bob Laliberte, analyst, Enterprise Storage Group. “One way that IT staffs can accomplish this is by implementing an end-to-end storage management solution that provides full visibility and flexible capacity management capabilities.”

Laliberte adds that Investing in these technologies can provide an almost immediate return on investment for storage, network, and server assets, while enabling the alignment of storage services and application requirements.
