NetApp Upgrades SnapManager for Oracle

January 23, 2009: NetApp has announced that it is rolling out SnapManager for Oracle version 3.0, promising improved backup, restore and cloning capabilities.

The company sasy that SnapManager 3.0 for Oracle builds upon previous capabilities and features and enables administrators to perform self-service data management on Oracle Databases more completely and efficiently.

It says the new version provides policy-driven data protection via integration with NetApp Protection Manager, helping storage administrators better create and manage policies and enabling database administrators (DBAs) to implement them using the software’s self-service features.

Because of this, NetApp says that DBAs can now standardise and automate backups of Oracle to primary and secondary storage through integration with its SnapVault and SnapMirror, providing more streamlined and comprehensive data protection.

Version 3.0 integrates with NetApp’s FlexClone technology, enabling databases to be cloned directly to primary or secondary storage in minutes, resulting in faster development and test cycles for quicker time to market. Finally the company claims the new version also provides increased Oracle Database availability, with the ability to schedule backups on the fly and enable volume-level restores.
