Book to Help Green Data Centres Launched

January 30, 2009: StorageIO founder and industry veteran Greg Schulz has published a new book on ‘green’ data centres, detailing leading-edge IT strategies for creating energy-efficient data centres.

Independent IT industry analyst and consultancy firm the StorageIO Group and the publisher Auerbach Publications/CRC Press have announced the release of Schulz’s book, The Green and Virtual Data Center.

The book focuses on the idea that IT infrastructure resources configured and deployed in a highly virtualised manner can be combined with other techniques and technologies to achieve a simplified and cost-effective delivery of IT services in a clean, green, and profitable manner.

According to StorageIO, The Green and Virtual Data Center sets aside the political aspects of what is or is not considered green to examine the opportunities for organisations trying to grow their business while being environmentally friendly in an economically efficient manner.

The company adds that it also addresses multiple technology domains and disciplines, and looks at design and implementation tradeoffs using various best practices and technologies to sustain application and business growth while maximising resources such as power, cooling, floor space, storage, server performance, and network capacity.

In conjunction with the book launch, StorageIO also announced the launch of a new website, www.thegreenandvirtualdatacenter.com, which provides information for enabling and deploying eco-friendly next-generation data centres.
