Quest looks in-house for e-Discovery

May 14, 2009:Quest Software has announced plans to provide a product to help IT, HR, records managers and legal investigators scope, collect, review and export electronically stored information (ESI) in-house, without having to outsource to costly third-party legal consultants.

Quest promises its forthcoming e-Discovery Manager will allow organisations to address legal, regulatory and internal investigations while reducing the cost and complexity of searching for, collecting and processing data.

e-Discovery requests typically beginn with a need to collect old e-mails - costing weeks of effort and causing major distraction from other priority projects. Increasingly high-volumes of litigation requests underscore IT and legal needs to quickly and cost-effectively retrieve electronic evidence, wherever it resides.

Quest e-Discovery Manager will collect data using a single interface from online production Exchange servers, offline Exchange database (EDB) files and Quest Archive Manager, allowing information in multiple silos to be gathered quickly and with less complexity through one central platform.

As they review the content, investigators can quickly apply tags to mark items for additional review, as well as protect privileged content, cull non-relevant information, perform in-depth analysis, and flag relevant content for export. This efficient processing de-duplicates data upfront, minimising the cost of reviewing the thousands of messages collected in a typical case.

Quest e-Discovery Manager will support evidence collection across mixed environments of Exchange Server 2003, 2007 and 2010, as well as offline EDBs. It integrates with Quest Archive Manager for discovery of e-mail, instant messaging and BlackBerry communications - all from a single interface.
