Dell’s Business Desktops Get Greener

Month Date, 2007: Dell has just announced its most energy efficient commercial desktop ever, also claiming it to have the “most flexible systems management capabilities in the industry”.

The new Opti-Plex 755 will comply with the newly released EnergyStar 4.0 standards, a US Environment Protection Agency program, which sets specifications for the amount of power drawn during various system modes. Whilst power efficiency improvements isn’t the only way to go green, anything that helps the environment more then it did before is still a good thing.

The systems management claim Dell is making is based on tools aimed at reducing the cost of maintaining IT infrastructure. Dell cites the example of the cost to resolve a ticket by means of a desk side visit costing far more then a remote solution. The integrated software on the Opti-Plex 755’s is aimed at reducing these desk side visits with improved tool reliability and efficiency.

"Our commitment to customers is to reduce complexity throughout the lifecycle of their IT assets but without compromising flexibility," said Heber Delaney, Dell Australia's brand manager for business desktops and workstations. The Opti-Plex 755 line is already available in Australia and Dell is hoping the focus on its green credentials and system management will push it to succeed as the commercial desktop of choice in the Australian market.
