Docusign Closes the Gap Between Drafting and Signing

A new desktop application lets teams edit, redact and prepare PDFs inside Docusign and send them for signature, with pre-signing changes kept on record. Docusign PDF Editor is a new offering for the company's Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform. It is aimed at legal, sales, procurement and HR teams.

Docusign said more than 70% of eSignature requests initiated directly in Docusign start as PDFs. Even a small change can mean opening another tool, editing the file, exporting a new version and uploading it again.

PDF Editor covers editing of text and images, combining files, reordering and deleting pages, redaction of sensitive information, annotations, form creation and file conversion.

Once a document is ready, users can send it into the Docusign signing workflow without manually uploading it.

Changes made before signing remain connected to the agreement history. Once a document is signed, editing is locked to preserve its integrity.

After signing, agreements are analysed by AI within Docusign, where teams can answer contracting questions, track key dates such as renewals and surface potential risks.

Docusign said keeping the work in one place reduces manual handoffs, version confusion and the movement of sensitive documents between multiple tools.

"You shouldn't have to jump in between tools just to get a contract ready for signature," said Graham Sheldon, chief product officer at Docusign. "With Docusign PDF Editor, you can now edit your PDF, send it for signature, and manage the contract afterward."

The move takes Docusign into desktop PDF editing, a category where Adobe pairs Acrobat with its own Acrobat Sign eSignature service.

PDF Editor will be available for IAM and eSignature customers to purchase from 2 November 2026. It will launch in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish, with more languages planned for 2027. Pricing was not disclosed.
