PatchLink Purchases SecureWave SA

June 19, 2007: The security firm PatchLink has acquired endpoint security specialist SecureWave SA, creating what the company is calling the industry’s first comprehensive security platform for unified protection and control of all enterprise servers and endpoints.

Hot on the heels of PatchLink’s purchase of Harris STAT in February, the all-stock will see SecureWave SA’s policy enforcement and central management and monitoring devices and software merged with PatchLink’s offerings to increase protection against leakage and malware.

The company says that through its positive security model, Sanctuary enables only authorised applications to run and only authorised devices to connect to laptops, PCs, servers, terminal services servers and thin clients.

Combined with PatchLink’s vulnerability management solutions, the company claims it can now offer “enterprise-wide policy management to assess and prioritise vulnerabilities, proactively enforce application and device security policies and automatically patch and remediate vulnerabilities across their entire IT infrastructures.”

Most importantly, these new capabilities enable PatchLink to offer a pre-emptive security solution, rather than a reactive one.

“Reactive security drives a maddening environment of ad hoc and emergency updates to signatures, patches and security policies. However, organisations realise that proactive security measures are the best way to maintain a consistent level of security risk management,” said IDC Research Director, Charles Kolodgy.

“This emphasis on fixing problems before they occur will create a significant market for integrated security policy and remediation management. A proactive stance will also reduce security risk across the enterprise.”

The deal is subject to shareholder approval and is expected to be closed in the following few weeks.
