CSIRO and AGIMO Work To Improve E-Services
June 28, 2007: The CSIRO ICT Centre and the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) have announced that they will be teaming up to investigate new delivery methods for online services.
The Hon Gary Nairn, Special Minister for State, and the Minister responsible for the AGIMO, says that this is an important in the Australian Government Online Service Point (AGOSP) initiative, which aims to provide simple, convenient access to government information and services.
If the project is successful, Mr Nairn claims the AGOSP will “usher in a new era of responsive government services.”
According to Dr Alex Zelinsky, the Director of the CSIRO ICT Centre, current service delivery models do not take into account important factors such as the tasks a person is trying to accomplish or the context in which they are working. He notes that Australians are increasingly moving towards online services for their day to day affairs, making government e-services and their ease of use important.
“CSIRO's goal is to contribute to developing e-services for Government that are easy to use, meet the real needs of people and ensure security and privacy,” said Dr Zelinsky.
Starting from July, AGOSP will be delivered over fours years with the first major release scheduled for December 2008, and the second for December 2010.
