SAS Smarts Up the IBM Mainframe

April 13, 2007: SAS has integrated its Enterprise Intelligence Platform for business intelligence into the IBM System z mainframe.

The SAS intelligence solution includes data integration, intelligence storage and analytics software. SAS says it’s the only combined BI and advanced analytics vendor to run on the mainframe.

SAS mainframe customer loos set to also benefit from a new pricing structure – reflective of the industry move to server consolidation – that will assist in adding new workloads to the System z platform.

“SAS is clearly committed to helping organisations take advantage of IBM’s application and data access solutions for System z,” says Claudia Imhoff, president of Intelligent Solutions, Inc.

For long-term friends IBM and SAS, the m move will assist them in addressing the growing BI market. “Regardless of size, SAS and IBM have declared that they are in it for the long haul,” says Imhoff. “Enabling enterprises to perform sophisticated data analysis and other BI functions while protecting and leveraging their mainframe investments.

Jim Davis, chief marketing officer at SAS says it makes sense for SAS to ensure the mainframe can support advances in BI, given their history and experience in the area.
