Check Point Manages Branch Office Security

February 6th, 2007: Check Point is bringing enterprise-class security to branch offices and mid-sized businesses with the release of its latest security appliance, the UTM-1.

Promising integrated centralised management for local and remote offices, the unified threat management (UTM) appliance offers multi-layered protection against Internet threats such as spyware, viruses and other network attacks according to Check Point.

The company says that the appliance can be centrally controlled to simplify management over multiple sites, and aside from protection against traditional threats it includes a stateful-inspection firewall, IPSec VPN, gateway antivirus and antispyware, intrusion prevention and a Web Application Firewall to protect web servers. It also features advanced security functions for voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), instant messaging and peer-to-peer networks.

“We created the new UTM-1 line to enable medium-sized businesses and departmental-level offices to take advantage of all the security and productivity benefits of our enterprise solutions in a platform specifically designed for their environment,” said Scott Ferguson, Regional Vice President Asia for Check Point. “The challenge of protecting a dynamic company network may seem daunting, but with UTM-1 we believe we have proven that power and simplicity can be combined in a single solution.

“With the peace of mind offered by a complete security solution, mid-sized businesses can truly realise the value of their network investment to grow their business.”

The UTM-1 and other models in the range are available now starting at USD$7,500.
