Council Gets Tough On Compliance.

October 5, 2006: Local NSW council, Moree Plains Shire, has identified over 20,000 work-related risks and moved ahead in tackling compliance processes governing occupational health and safety procedures.

The council has chosen Mavim to provide a systematic approach for the easy access of documentation on safe work practices via the council’s intranet site. With a mobile workforce covering an area of 17,500 square kilometres, the documents need to be readily available from any location.

The divide between the IT department and organisational management needed to be crossed for successful implementation of the solution. Mavim says its software can work to effectively capture, design, maintain and communication organisation processes, rules and changes when required.

John Egan, risk Manager at Moree Plains Shire Council, says Mavim’s solutions can provide the Local Government sector with management tools to ensure compliance in the minimisation of operational risks. “The costs of being compliant are a drop in the ocean compared to the consequences if an accident occurs and due diligence can not be proved.”

“With Mavim, we have readily available policies, procedures and controls in place to better identify genuine and foreseeable risks,” he said. “For example, physical hazards to external council workers can now be managed more efficiently as staff and contractors have access to all the OH&S requirements that govern that site.”

The initial phase of the Mavim implementation is expected to be completed in June 2007.
