New Zealand Council Seeks An Objective Solution

October 10, 2006: Invercargill City council looks set to improve information management through the selection of Objective Corporation for enterprise content management.

Covering an area of 49,142 hectares, with an annual budget of $56 million, the Council is responsible for delivering services and facilities to approximately 50,300 people. The council says the Objective solution will assist in the council’s ability to share information across multiple division, directorates and remote locations.

“Objective will make it easier to share information across our many divisions, directorates and remote locations,” says Les Pullar, Director of Finance and Corporate Services. “This will minimise the hours spent retrieving information from individual silos of information that existed in each division and directorate.”

With modern day councils expected to deliver on the increasing demands of customers, the council believes improved enterprise content management will allow people to better participate in decision-making processes. Objective has been contracted to manage documents such as plans, contracts, rates notices, correspondence, photos, applications and building warrants.

The Public Records Act of 2005 means New Zealand councils must now comply with certain records management procedures. Invercargill City Council maintains that the Objective relationship will assist in delivering transparency and accountability to the community while also ensuring compliance with the legislative changes.

Invercargill City Council says the Objective selection is a long-term solution that will provide a permanent structure to day-to-day information management.
