HP Beefs Up Data Deduplication Capabilities

June 25, 2008: HP is fixing to further improve its data protection capabilities, announcing new data deduplication solutions that it claims will increase disk utilisation by up to 50 times.

Data deduplication technology eliminates redundant data from a disk storage device to lower storage space requirements.

It enables more efficient use of floor space and lower energy consumption by decreasing storage capacity requirements, and also helps them minimise management requirements by retaining data on disk for longer periods of time.

HP says it will be providing two distinct methods of data deduplication, one for small and medium-sized (SMB) customers, and one for enterprises. The SMB solution has been integrated into its StorageWorks D2D Backup Systems, while enterprises will be able to take advantage of the technology with HP’s StorageWorks Virtual Library Systems.

The company claims the technology will deliver scalable solutions that reduce storage costs and protect business critical data.
