New virus safeguards for businesses

Sep 09, 2005: Computer Associates has created a new protection suite for Microsoft's Windows Server System that promises to safeguard businesses from viruses and spyware, as well as providing backup and restore technologies.

The Business Protection Suite for Midsize Business for Windows also offers desktop migration technologies and aims to provide better protection for Window's systems that many criticise regularly because of security glitches.

David Luft, the senior vice president of SMB product development at CA, said that Microsoft's Windows Server System for Midsize Business promotion is a compelling value for companies seeking to enhance their competitive position by developing a world-class business technology platform.

"CA is supporting Microsoft's initiative and extending our presence in this market by providing these companies with comprehensive data protection in a way that addresses both their budget constraints and their limited IT staff resources."

It is expected that the suite will help customers to fend off the onslaught of viruses, while easing antivirus administration and automatically updating virus signatures.

CA claimed that thousands of pests will be detected and removed, including spyware, adware, trojans, denial-of-service attack agents, and other backdoor web-based threats, which will safeguard PCs from unauthorised access, information theft and diminished system performance.

In addition, CA has provided 14 patents to the open source community. This will allow open source workers to take advantage of any software licence that has been approved and is listed on the Open Source Initiative website.

CA has also announced that it has reached a long-term patent cross licence agreement with IBM, creating an exchange of licence rights and releases between the companies.
