Guinness Book of World Records recognises smallest hard disk drive

July 07, 2005: Imation's Micro Hard Drive, which contains 2-gigabytes, has been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the world's smallest hard drive spinning head.

It's USB 2.0 high-speed interface is designed to allow files to be shared and transferred easily across PCs, Mac and Linux platforms. It also includes security options to help keep valuable files protected.

Imation Security Manager file synchronisation and encryption software for Windows and Mac backs up multiple file versions behind the scenes and automatically synchronises copies, to prevent unauthorised access by tightly locking all files with 128-bit encryption.

Even if the device is stolen, the encryption technology can prevent anybody from downloading any files.

A spokesperson for Imation, said that the Imation Micro Hard Drive, offers just the right mix of capacity, security and reliability for on-the-go professionals.

"The Micro Hard Drive is perfect for content rich and rugged work environments such as advertising and geoscience industries. Whether users are sharing, storing or transporting high-capacity files, the Imation Micro Hard Drive's design and software will ensure their files are there when they want them."

The drive also allows users to roll back to earlier versions of documents. Imation is hoping that it will follow the same success of its USB flash drives, which have been a huge success for the company so far.
