Homegrown e-learning boost for Aussie schools

Two Australian born e-learning companies have merged together to complete their vision of providing educational services to young children at schools to help them learn more easily through the use of technology.

CSM Group has joined forces with myinternet Limited to create AUS$30 million organisation that aims to satisfy the needs of the whole education market in Australia.

The combined company currently services over 5,000 schools and 1.5 million users across Australia and internationally, but it now aims to cast its net over the whole country in a bid to offer better services than multi-national companies.

Kim Ford, the general manage of technology at CSM said: "We have been operating for 20 years specialising in providing information technology, telecommunications and training services to the corporate, government and education sector in Australia. myinternet has been around for 10 years providing e-learning services on K-12 education.

"Our company has been an expert in setting up the infrastructure, but we recently moved into provide a user-interface too, whereas myinternet.com has been an expert in providing a user-interface, but recently moved into providing infrastructure services too.

"Combined we can merge our expertise together and provide even better services now to existing customers."

CSM's has contracts already with the Northern Territory, where it provides services to all schools under the control of the Departments of Education in that area. It also serves the SA Departments of Education too.

myinternet.com.au provides software that enables schools to access the Internet, allow children and teachers to email each other, and create material that is useful for work relevant to the curriculum.

Ford talked about the vision the combined company now has: "We believe that the K-12 education market in Australia is in a period of high growth and it is looking for solutions like the ones we currently provide in parts of Australia, so we are hoping to eventually serve all schools in the whole of Australia.

"We want to provide a world-class service than help children to learn more easily through using technology, which we believe has a very important role to play in supporting educational needs. We are very excited about an Australian born company providing this service to Australian schools and beating the competition from multi-national companies."
