Novel Idea for focused research

By Rodney Appleyard

A new research service has been launched today that promises to offer end users specialised research that can help them to make their minds up about the best company to trust and product to buy based on pricing, performance and functionality indicators.

Ideas International will provide a 'pay-per-use' service to IT managers in large corporate and government organisations who are interested in researching technologies.

The service will be called "Decision Point" and will provide comparative features, in-depth analysis and assessments in the following areas:

* Server consolidation.* Storage selection.* Operating systems evaluations, and* Web application development choices.

Ian Birks, the chief executive officer for Ideas International Limited, said that this service provides a welcome departure from the traditional annual subscription model for industry research and also provides more in-depth advice for end users.

"The problem with research provided by Meta Group, IDC and Gartner is that users have to sign up for a year to gain access to information that covers many different subjects, but is not always relevant to them.

"Our service allows an organisation to find research when they are either at the planning stage or the buying stage, so it is instantly relevant to their needs. They can access all of the quantitative and qualitative information via our website, where they can enter in the criteria that outlines exactly what they are looking for. This means that they can pin-point and drill down for the research that matches their requirements."

Each company only has to sign up for three months, which allows them to use the website and Idea's enormous database resource to find specific research information. Ideas International already provides internal comparison studies to the likes of IBM and EMC to help them receive the most up-to-date information about competitor strategies.

Birks believes that by opening up this service to end-users, this will help them feel much more confident about planning how to incorporate new technology and will also help them to make decisions on which products they should buy.

Earlier this year, in January, Ideas bought the US-based research advisory firm DH Brown Associates, which it has re-branded as IT Consulting Services. This added high value additional qualitative strategic analysis, assessments and evaluations to the impressive research pool they already had.
