Fraud protection for financial institutions

Lexmark and Dataline have teamed up to protect financial institutions and Australian resellers from the threat of fraud being carried out on financial documents, such as cheques.

Dataline, which supplies cheque issuance systems, will distribute Source Technologies' non-impact Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) printing products based on Lexmark's printing platform to Australian resellers.

The MICR technology automatically reads and sorts financial documents, including cheques, by scanning identification numbers on each document.

Ken Swanson, the managing director of Dataline, said: "Any large organisation which regularly issues cheques or similar documents can overcome the security concerns of storing large amounts of blank cheques using non-impact MICR technology.

"By running Dataline's MICR enablers across the Lexmark laser printer platform we have reduced the cost non-impact MICR technology and significantly extended the potential customer base outside of financial institutions."

Organisations that use the Lexmark E330 and the T Series printers will be about to print these documents on demand.
