iAwards State Winners Announced

By Greg McNevin

April 25, 2008: The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has announced the winners of the state and territory finals for its 2008 iAwards.

The iAwards recognise the most outstanding information and communications technology (ICT) innovators in each state, with all levels of the ICT community competing and finalists emerging from start-ups right through to established innovators.

“ICT innovation is increasingly recognised as driving national productivity growth, and the iAwards is a platform that puts Australian innovators firmly in the spotlight,” said recently appointed AIIA CEO Ian Birks. “AIIA extends its congratulations to the entrepreneurs who have taken out awards in 2008. We are confident that many of the industry’s future leaders will be drawn from these winners.”

Some of the winners include TOWER software, Meridian Health Informatics, Mishme Enterprises, Roam Interactive, the Etech Group, Callista Software Services, Western Australia Police and Fujitsu Australia.

This year the iAwards expanded to a two-tier approach with the state winners going on to compete at the national iAwards. All finalists will also be eligble to win five special awards announced on the night: the CSIRO Tony Benson Award for outstanding individual achievement in ICT; the Inspiration Award, for the best ICT product or service; the ICT Exporter of the Year; the Community Award, for innovation in corporate social responsibility; and, the Start-up Award for the best new ICT business.

A gala dinner announcing the national iAward winners will be hosted in Melbourne on 28 May as part of Technology Week. A full list of winners from each state can be found on the AIIA’s website.
