Verbatim Releases 500GB 2.5” Drive

May 1, 2008: Verbatim ispumping up the storage capacity of its 2.5” portable hard drives, becoming the first company to touch half a terabyte in drives of this size.

According to IDC, the digital universe is set to increase from 281 Exabytes in 2007 to nearly 1,800 Exabytes in 2011, and according to Toshiba, portability is key.

“Being able to add half a Terabyte of storage to a PC or Mac with such a small, easy to carry device is a new milestone in the portable storage industry,” said Charles Klinker, Verbatim Director of Marketing for SmartDisk products.

The PDA-sized drive joins Verbatim’s SmartDisk line of portable HDDs, and is expected to begin shipping in Q2 this year.
