Tighter protections for dispersed data

EMC, Legato and Microsoft have teamed up to offer new solutions for protecting data stored in remote sites and branch offices.

They will be producing a number of seminars on how to cost effectively consolidate and take care of information as it rapidly proliferates across multiple locations.

The solution features EMC's NetWin 200 network attached storage (NAS) system running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 software as part of the Windows Server System and Legato RepliStor software.

Up to 60 percent of large organisations have their information located somewhere away from the main data centre. Managing and recovering the divided data can be a huge headache for IT managers, since the systems are not very well connected.

The seminars will educate companies on how to reduce cost and complexity through EMC's NetWin 200, built on the Windows Storage Server 2003 platform.

This platform provides information consolidation by efficiently replicating it acoss multiple sites and routinely backing up local branch data to a central location with minimal impact on performance.

William Hurley, senior analyst at the Enterprise Storage Group said. "The centralisation of data and its management is key to controlling risk. IT managers face many risks to their business, from lengthy recovery times to vulnerability when it comes to compliance regulations. Consolidation and continuous replication through network attached storage helps minimise these and other risks while simplifying the overall IT infrastructure.

EMC, Legato and Microsoft are delivering an integrated solution that will help solve problems customers face today while providing them with a cost-effective platform for future growth and the ability to easily support new applications at each branch location."
