BMC, Inrange team on knowledge modules

Inrange Technologies has agreed to offer BMC Software's management software alongside its storage networking hardware.

According to the companies, the agreement sets out that Inrange's internal sales team would sell BMC Software's Patrol for Storage Arrays and Patrol for Storage Networking applications. Under BMC's nomenclature, the two applications are called "knowledge modules".

The modules would optimise the performance of Inrange's FC/9000 multi-protocol director-class switch "through improved operational efficiencies and accelerated problem resolution", they said.

Each of the modules supports nine different types of hardware from different manufacturers. In the case of the Storage Arrays module, the list of approved devices is: EMC's Clariion, Celerra and Symmetrix famlies; Hitachi Freedom Storage; Hewlett-Packard's Surestore Array XP and the Storageworks line it acquired from Compaq; IBM Enterprise Storage Server; filers from Network Appliance; and Sun Microsystems' StorEdge T3 Array. For the Storage Networking module, the supported hardware list is: Brocade Silkworm, CNT Ultranet Storage Networking, routers from Crossroads, Gadzoox Slingshot, Inrange FC/9000, McData Directors, Nishan IP Storage Switches, and QLogic FC Switches, as well as host bus adapters.
