EMC Rolls out New Unified Storage System for SMBs

September 1, 2008: EMC has rolled out its latest unified storage system, the 60 terabyte, entry-level Celerra NX4.

EMC says that the Celerra NX4 has a flexible design, enabling it to be deployed in network attached storage (NAS), iSCSI and Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) environments.

A new entry point to its Celerra series, EMC adds that the solution offers advanced functionality at no extra charge and claims that it is the most cost-effective entry-level unified storage platform available.

Aimed at small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and remote offices looking to consolidate distributed file servers and storage, the NX4 comes with EMC’s Celerra Startup Assistant software, and can be configured in as little as 15 minutes according to the company.

Beyond setup, EMC says that system administration enables administrators to provision a file system in just four mouse clicks, while Celerra SnapSure enables instant data protection while consuming minimal storage space by providing read-only and read-writable logical point-in-time copies of data.

The NX4 supports up to 60 terabytes from 60 high-capacity SATA disk drives or high-performance SAS drives, and software including Microsoft, Unix, Linux and VMware ESX Server operating environments. It also supports major applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle, VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and VMware Site Recovery Manager, and comes with proven reference architectures to speed deployment.
