Getting a handle on AutoCAD docs

Getting a handle on AutoCAD docs

March 10, 2009: Dv Project is a new tool that promises a simpler way to handle document file management for teams engaged with AutoCad engineering drawings.

Developer Practical Programs, Inc. claims an improved and more user-friendly interface means CAD dwg files can be more easily and more simply accessed, checked in or out, revised, and copied.

The tool's security settings retain the ability to assign only the individuals to projects selected and to control who is allowed to access critical files. This CAD viewer and file management solution is designed to avoid choice overkill while keeping production focused and streamlined.

Dv Project aims to simplify everyday engineering drawing management tasks in the fields of industrial machinery and drill bit design for mining and energy applications, as well as a host of other industry-specific design applications.

Dv Project makes it easy to quickly and painlessly add multiple documents with a simple drag and drop platform, just like in Microsoft Windows applications, enabling mass-migration of files quickly and easily.

Metadata is automatically populated from folders and title blocks and thumbnails of drawings are auto-generated from mass-imported files. Documents are almost instantly ready for content search, check-in and check-out, desktop or web viewing, markup and distribution. Index and store any and all document directories and retrieve documents with the advanced searching function. Users can view, archive, manage, convert, and distribute AutoCAD drawings with this simplified document file management software in an intuitive manner.

"We have discovered that the Dv Project suite is a cost-effective way for smaller teams with more streamlined requirements to get just what they need and keep costs under tighter control.Dv Project is just right for many companies who want to explore some of the functionality of the Dv TDM suite without committing to a higher cost and complexity just yet," says Bret Lawson, sales manager at Practical Programs.

"We designed this solution to help make sense of acquiring a professional document management solution for limited needs."

Dv Project is intended to facilitate drawing and file management for 10 or fewer concurrent users on a single local network. Dv Project may be installed on a server and accessed from local machines or installed on and accessed from a stand-alone computer. Installation time forDv Project is 3 hours via remote installation and includes one concurrent license. Additional licenses run at $US1,475 each. Customized modifications can be quoted as needed.

The Dv Project stand-alone tool is priced at $US2,995 on its own, or can be purchased as part of the larger Dv TDM suite at additional cost and with enhanced applications for larger work groups. If requiring more than 10 concurrent users, web versions, or a distributed network, the fullDv TDM product is generally recommended.

Dv TDM, the larger tools suite, is available as an upgrade to Dv Project for when document management needs expand and grow more complex.
