Hitachi Boosts Enterprise NAS Range

November 30, 2007: Hitachi has expanded its high-performance NAS range, unveiling new nearline and high-end midrange platforms that it claims offer unmatched data protection and scalability.

Building on the success of BlueArc-powered platform, Hitachi is introducing two new models - the NAS Platform 2000 and the NAS Platform 2000 Nearline. The firm says that these devices imbue enterprises with new advanced storage services such as data protection, replication, clustering, and virtual server capabilities, and do it within an integrated storage management framework.

Hitachi says the NAS Platform 2000 is a high-performing NAS solution that comes in a more cost-effective package, and scales (up to 128TB) as required as the enterprise grows.

The NAS Platform 2000 Nearline on the other hand, is aimed at customers requiring high-performance, yet cost-effective disk-to-disk data storage for a secondary site or large data repository. Scaling to 2 petabytes, Hitachi claims the Nearline bridges the gap for customers torn between choosing slow but low-cost tape or fast but higher-cost fiber channel storage systems.

The company has also announced new clustering, data protection, virtual server and integrated storage management services.

“Hitachi has a proven track record in delivering the most robust data protection, long-distance replication and integrated storage management services to our enterprise customers,” said John Mansfield, senior vice president, Global Solutions Strategy and Development, Hitachi Data Systems.

“With today’s announcement, we are bringing all of these advanced storage services to our expanded NAS platform portfolio enabling customers to reduce data storage costs, mitigate risks and improve productivity for their business.”
