A locally hosted cloud-based Digital Asset Management (DAM) service has been launched by Picturepark distributor DataBasics, targetting users in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

The Australian Picturepark Regional Cloud is the first Regional Cloud service to be offered by Picturepark globally and is hosted in Australia on BitCloud servers.

This does away with any need to rely on data centres in Europe or the US. Instead, with metadata and assets stored and managed locally, users will be able to access their digital assets quickly and reliably direct from Australia. 

DataBasics Director, Ricky Patten, said, “Picturepark may be fast but when you’re linking to the other side of the planet you expect some sort of lag. For this reason, we foresee a large interest in the Regional Cloud solution as, let’s face it, who doesn’t want fast access to their data.”

For Australian customers in particular, this locally-hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution will provide compliance with Privacy law reforms that come into effect on Wednesday 12 March 2014. 

“This level of compliance is particularly important for our government clients as they need to maintain clear transparency on ownership and access of all of their assets,” said Mr Patten.

In partnering with BitCloud, DataBasics has ensured that the Australian Picturepark Regional Cloud solution is fully hosted and managed by an Australian owned company, with a local support team familiar with local conditions. Support from the Swiss-based development team is there when needed. The BitCloud servers also ensure the Picturepark solution remains scalable in terms of the software and data storage, with capacity able to be increased in parallel with clients’ demands.

The Australian Picturepark Regional Cloud service runs on standard Picturepark software, which includes built-in support for secure multi-tenant deployment. The full-service SaaS solution provides customers with their own secure Picturepark, which can be fully branded and provides for an unlimited number of users and groups.

The Australian Picturepark Regional Cloud complements DataBasics existing product range of on-premise solutions.
